Be prepared for delays! Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints are expecting heavy traffic from May 21st to June 23rd. This covers the lead-up to and during Vesak Day as well as the June school holidays.
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) issued a traffic advisory. It warns travelers to expect delays due to increased security measures at the checkpoints. Be sure to factor in extra time for immigration clearance!
A traffic app check showed waiting times could be between 3-4 hours to enter Singapore via the Causeway and 1.5-2.5 hours via the Tuas Second Link (as of May 19th, 11pm).
ICA reported nearly 2.3 million travelers crossed the checkpoints during the recent Good Friday long weekend, a 30% increase compared to 2023! During peak periods, some travelers waited up to 3 hours due to traffic build-up from Malaysia.
Tips for Travelers Crossing the Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints
- Check traffic conditions – Keep yourself updated with the traffic advisories before your trip. See live updates before your trip using LTA’s One Motoring website, Expressway Motoring & Advisory System, ICA’s social media, or local radio.
- Don’t cut queues! ICA will turn away anyone caught doing this.
- Faster Clearance: Use QR codes instead of passports for faster immigration clearance (if traveling by car).
- Book Tickets in Advance: If you are planning a getaway, book your bus tickets online well in advance. Grab the June School Holidays Offer on redBus and buy bus tickets at low prices.
- Passports: Ensure yours has at least 6 months validity. Update Re-Entry Permits and inform ICA of passport changes (for Singapore PRs and Long-Term Pass holders).
- SG Arrival Card: Submit it with health declaration for short-term visitors (including those with in-principle approval for long-term pass) via MyICA app within 3 days before arrival in Singapore.
- Foreign Vehicles: Ensure valid Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP), Autopass card, LTA VEP approval email, and valid insurance. Settle any outstanding fines to avoid entry denial.
