Starting July 1, Malaysians visiting India can obtain a 30-day double-entry electronic visa (e-visa) free of charge. This initiative by the Indian High Commission will be valid until June 30, 2025.
Applications for the e-visa can be submitted online through the Indian visa portal. It’s important to note that the e-tourist visa must be used within 120 days of being issued.
Previously, Malaysians had to pay RM465 (US$98) to apply online through the Indian visa portal. Now, they can enjoy this convenient visa option for free with this new development.
The Indian High Commission clarifies that regulations regarding other categories of visas and e-tourist visas will still apply. This means those who prefer to apply for a normal paper visa through outsourced service providers or directly via the commission will still be required to pay the usual visa fees.
On a related note, Indian passport holders travelling to Malaysia are eligible for visa-free entry for up to 30 days, valid from December 1, 2023, until December 31, 2024.
